    Joint Technical Meeting, Gothenburg 1

    The 3rd ARIADNE Joint Technical Meeting was held in Gothenburg on 10th and 11th  September 2015. The aim of the meeting was to discuss the progress of the activities related to the design and implementation of the ARIADNE integrated platform and plan for its implementation. The workshop was coordinated by PIN and hosted by the Swedish National Data Service (SND). The meeting was attended by WP leaders and other key members of Work Packages 3,12,13,14,15 and 16.

    15 Sep 15This Special Issue originates from the ISPRS/CIPA Workshop “UNDERWATER 3D RECORDING & MODELING—Experiences in Data Acquisition, Calibration, Orientation, Modelling & Accuracy Assessment” (http://3dom.fbk.eu/files/underwater/index.html) and will accept improved and extended selected papers derived from the workshop’s proceedings, as well as new contributions from international colleagues.

    Fasti Online, which provides access to over 12,000 reports excavation reports and site summaries across the Mediterranean, has launched a new database of reports on archaeological conservation for objects and sites. The scope is global and authors and organisations are invited to submit their reports to the Archaeological Conservation service.

    The 44th Computer Applications and Quantitative Methods in Archaeology Conference (CAA 2016) has been given the theme “Exploring Oceans of Data”, in reference to Norway’s maritime heritage.

    Archaeological publisher, Archaeopress, have announced a new Journal of Greek Archaeology for 2016 and are calling for submission of articles and books for review. They have also several new publications and will have a book stall in Hunters Hall at EAA in Glasgow in September.

    Checking in on the state of the art for Linked Open Data and Cultural Heritage

    ARIADNE partners University of South Wales and the Archaeology Data Service were very pleased to be invited to present at Linked Pasts, a two-day event bringing together ‘leading exponents of Linked Data from across the Humanities and Cultural Heritage sector’. This event took place at King’s College London at the end of July and was organised under the auspices of Pelagios, a collective of some of the most successful and effective Linked Open Data (LOD) projects in cultural heritage and the humanities.

  • PARTHENOS Kicks off

    The PARTHENOS Research Infrastructure kicked off in Florence at the start of July. ARIADNE is a key partner, representing the archaeology domain as one of the many digital humanities research infrastructures involved in this new initiative. Other key partners include CLARIN, DARIAH, CENDARI, IPERION-CH and EHRI-2, all whom will be collaborating on identifying common user requirements, standards and good practices across the different domains and building an overarching infrastructure to serve the needs of researchers working across the disciplines.

    ARIADNE hosted a very successful workshop at CAA 2015 in Siena on 2nd April entitled ”Supporting researchers in the use and reuse of archaeological data”. Following an open call for papers, a selection of related topics were presented by both ARIADNE partners and external speakers to an audience of around 80 people.

    The first paper by Nikolaos Kazakis and Nestor Tsirliganis from CETI covered archaeological datasets and Gisli Palsson then talked about how the Institute of Archaeology,Iceland, bridged the gaps between fieldwork, laboratory analysis and online archiving.
