Study: Towards a Web of Archaeological Linked Open Data

The overall objective of ARIADNE is to help in making archaeological data more easily discoverable, accessible and re-useable. The project addresses the fragmentation of archaeological data in Europe and promotes a culture of open sharing and (re-)use of data across institutional, national and disciplinary boundaries of archaeological research. More specifically, ARIADNE implements an e-infrastructure for data interoperability, sharing and integrated access via a data portal. Linked Open Data can greatly contribute to these goals.

CIDOC-CRM and the Provenance of Stained Glass Windows
Introduction
Ivona Posedi has just started her PhD at the University of Lincoln in the UK and is currently at PIN learning about CIDOC-CRM in order to apply it to her work. Ivona is an archaeometrist and her interest lies in stained glass windows, particularly those in English cathedrals. For her thesis she will use diverse but complimentary techniques (e.g. SEM-EDS, handheld XRF, LA-ICP-MS, etc.) to obtain as much information about the glass as she can.

ARIADNE at JT_DH

The Slovenian Language Technologies Society (SDJT), the Centre for Language Resources and Technologies at the University of Ljubljana (CJVT) and the research infrastructures CLARIN.SI and DARIAH-SI organised the conference “Language Technologies and Digital Humanities” which took place at the end of September 2016. ARIADNE presented “Povezani odprti podatki (LOD) v praksi” (ARIADNE: Linked Open Data (LOD) in practice).

DARIAH Report on Open Access Publishing

DARIAH recently released a report on open access publishing of research data in the humanities. It is part of DARIAH’s Humanities at Scale project (HaS). As an output of work package 7 the report is a first step in the design process of an Open Humanities Data Platform, which will be the main result of this work package. The report serves as input for the design and sustainability plan, and will ultimately contribute to creating this platform.
